American Medinas: Turning US Cities Into ‘Beachheads’ for Islam

Founded by Alexander Hamilton as the first industrial city in America, Paterson, N.J., “¯is now home to America’s largest Palestinian community and largest proportion of Muslim residents. Thanks to lobbying by this first-of-its-kind Muslim officers union, which also organizes annual pilgrimages to Mecca, NYPD now allows female officers to wear hijabs and male officers to wear turbans and kufi caps, as well as beards; Jewish officers are now allowed to wear yarmulkes. This year, NYPD hosted a Ramadan dinner at its headquarters.
